Resistance 2 puts you in the heroic role of Sgt. Nathan Hale. View larger. |
This sequel introduces several new Chimeran enemies with a host of new powers. View larger. | Resistance 2 takes up right where Resistance: Fall of Man left off. Hale is kidnapped by a black ops group in London and forced to Iceland for research testing. The full scope of what happens in Iceland is a mystery, but the game reveals that as Hale wrestles with the insidious Chimera war machine, he must also battle the virus raging inside his body that threatens to transform him into the very creature he fights against. The Return of the Chimera The Chimera are the main enemies of the Resistance franchise. For those new to the story, it is believed that the Chimera are of extraterrestrial origin. Yet, it is known that their army expands by infecting humans with a virus that transforms humans into Chimera while inside a cocoon. These creatures are much stronger than humans, and they usually have multiple yellow eyes. They have remarkable healing abilities and thrive in very cold temperatures, which has led them to alter the Earth's climate to a much lower temperature that better suits their habitat requirements. Resistance 2 introduces several new Chimeran enemies with a host of new powers. A few new characters include the Chameleon, a creature that can cloak itself completely and kill a player in one, destructive blow, and the Grim, which are a terrifying species that attack in hordes. The Battle Moves to the United States After the brief opening scenes in London and then Iceland, game play jumps ahead two years and across the globe to San Francisco. Giant, mile-long motherships slowly cruise through the skies, demolishing the city with fiery beams. The city is burned and mangled, and it appears that there will be little to no survivors. As the battle continues across the United States, you're sure to encounter many new, deranged, and much more powerful enemies. In Chicago, you'll be joined by a squad of soldiers, all carrying different weapons. To survive and move through the level, you'll need to work together, moving from cover to cover, setting up your squad in a smart and defensive manner. These are just a few examples of the challenging levels you'll encounter as you battle your way across the country to save humankind. And if you're hoping for new weapons, Resistance 2 won't leave you disappointed. The US-based campaign is loaded with tons of new weapons to enhance the overall game play and first-person shooter experience. Online game play Goes BIG Powered by Insomniac Games' third-generation PlayStation 3 technology, Resistance 2 delivers several console gaming breakthroughs. Most impressive are the stand-alone, class-based, online co-operative campaign mode that can accommodate up to eight players, and the mind-blowing, 60-player, squad-based online competitive multiplayer battle fest. This unprecedented 60-player option could revolutionize online multiplayer game play and is sure to provide countless hours of action-packed fun.
Resistance 2, set in the United States, is loaded with new weapons, enemies, and an unprecedented online gaming experience.

Great game... must own for all PS3 owners. Don't listen to those giving the game a bad rating, they are just xbox fanboys hating on sony's field
PS3 Sucks November 19, 2008 William Nicholson (Mobile, AL) 0 out of 10 found this review helpful
PS3 sucks! X Box is the way to go!!! I finaly sold my PS3 for a low price of 150 after i finished this game! i will never go back to SONY! SONY SUCKS!!!!!!!! Am i a fan boy? no look at my other reviews i have given GOW 2 a 1 star review as well! HORRILBLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WHY WHY WHY??? B/C These companies are to lazzy and know we will run out and by it b/c of the first 1! This game is a weak effort compared to the original. Insomniac appears to be more interested in cashing in than improving the FPS species. Rent before you buy...
Great game, not sure where these 1 and 2 stars are coming from. November 19, 2008 E. Iseler (Grand Rapids, MI) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
This game is basically 3 games in one, and offers as much or more than any other $60 game out there. I'm not sure where people can come off giving this game a 1 or 2 star other than spreading lies and fanboy hate. You'd be hard pressed to find any game this winter that offers so much and has this much replayability. This holiday nothing can compare to R2 on the PS3. I'm going to be playing the co-op online for months on end. It's so addictive. I've already played the story mode 2 times and I'm working my way through the hardest difficulty now, holy crap is it tough. Anyways, ignore the haters, you'd be hard pressed to get a game for $60 that offers all this depth and variety.
whats the hype about? November 19, 2008 Stephen T. Webb 0 out of 4 found this review helpful
I bought the first resistance because it was a cheaper fps game. It was cool for a while and then it became repetitive with the same weapons and killing style. I just recently tried out the 2nd one and within the first 5 mins of the game there is a glitch. When you follow the comander guy onto the bridge he says "uh oh here they come you better take cover," i killed all of the aliens before they reached us and the commander just stood behind cover waiting for the aliens to follow, and then the game would not allow me to continue on. The fact that the aliens never reached us would not allow the game to continue, how stupid. This was within the first 5 mins. I turned it off imediately. I only gave this game a very deserving 2 stars, one for the courage of the developers to produce a second game, and the second star because the graphics are minisculie better than in the first one.
lot's of bangs for your bucks. November 18, 2008 leatherface (Texas) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
let me just say, this is truly a sequel and not a 1.5. Resistance 2 has a completely different feel to it than part 1. R1 had the feeling you were part of WW2, R2 has that 50's alien invasion b-movie feeling that of course fits in that timeline. The graphics have a cool 50's look to it, the sound fx and the game's music score is excellent. New fans of the series will love it, but i can see how the original fans can gripe about a "few" things about the main story. On line is where this game shines. 8 player co-op side missions, which keeps a team working as a team and that's kind of rare in on line gaming. Insane 60 player on line team death match 30 vs. 30. The only thing I didn't like about on line is that once you complete a mission on 8 player co op, and you liked the team you played with, you can't go back with them. you have to search for another mission. maybe I'm doing something wrong, oh well. This game truly delivers and tries new things, not just adds a flamethrower to the main story or 1 more player for on line 5 vs 5.
