Good system and good sound... September 22, 2008 Sen (San Diego, CA United States) I looked at this system at local Costco couple of months ago. I liked it and it met my specs. But, one thing stopped me was the price. Then, last week, local Frys had listed it on sale for $300. I couldn't pass this up. And, I must say I was not disappointed. Installation was simple and easy. The speakers were tiny than I expected. They produce very good sound and fill the up living room. There are not lot of input options, but the existing one are sufficient enough for my needs: I use the optical input from my HDDVD player and co-axial digital input from Dish receiver. I don't have an i-pod, but I have to check if I can use this connection for some other devices. Upconversion is pretty good (but not as good as my Toshiba). It looks like the upconversion works only if you use HDMI cable to connect your TV. It is worth the price. It is perfect, if you want a small but good surround sound.
Mediocre July 23, 2008 Greg M (SF, CA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
It's meant to be small and discrete, yet the subwoofer is enormous. It isn't that hard to setup and the booming sound is fine for me as a nonaudiophile. However, if you have a 1080p HDTV, the DVD playback will look amazingly poor. It's great if you got the freebie deal that Best Buy had going, but think twice before shelling out the $ on this thing.
Excellent if you value looks and aren't an audiophile July 13, 2008 Long Rifle (Philadelphia, USA) The system is sleek, the speakers don't stick out and dominate the room like many in many other systems. Despite their size, the sound is alright. My living room is approximately 4x6m, and the speakers fill the room with movie sounds. At low volume levels the dialogue is maybe too low, but as I said, the volume can be adjusted high enough to be loud enough and even too loud in my living room. Overall, I think these speakers are perfect for at least a 4x6m living room. If you don't care about looks, you could probably get the same quality for less money. If you want perfect sound quality, you can get better quality for the same money. To a regular person this system sounds great, and looks great.
Great little system... April 7, 2008 Humberto P. Charles (Brasil) If you are looking for a compact home theater you should consider DAV-IS10. First of all the system provides a real surround despite the size. Second of all, it`s stylish and has a upscaler dvd player. The conexions: HDMI - I use the hdmi port with my Sony Bravia Optical input - I use with the PS3 RCA input - I use with airport (itunes) Remember it`s not a professional home theater, but if you want to save space and buy a system with nice features, good surround i think this is a splendid option. It really works for me.
nice system February 6, 2008 P. Tam (sf, ca) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I have a 42" Panasonic plasma and sit abound 12 feet from the TV (medium size room). Most home theater systems I looked at were huge and complex. The Sony DAV-IS10 works well for me because it is a sleak system which delivers good sound - good combination of looks and sound. The biggest negative for me is the sound has to be turned up to about 80 percent to be really loud, which seems high. Those that want super loud may want more.
