1 out of 5 stars you either love it or dont, I DONT   September 14, 2008

Last November I bought this system for my husband for his birthday. After getting it home, and setting it up, it did NOT work. Like others, it did not recognize a disk. I took it back down, returned it, bought another one, it worked. For about 6 months of extremely occasional use. Maybe 6 times. Now it does not work. Now it skips every 10-15 seconds through movies. So.....we called Philips, since it was still under warranty. They sent us a new one. It does NOT work. NOW we have to call them again. Wow, what a vicious circle. This will be the last Philips product that we purchase. I am calling on Monday to request that they reimburse us our 250.00 that I payed for it. I will give the money to Sony instead. I like their products and should have stayed with them to begin with. I am a full time nursing student and money is a little shy around here at the moment, but like the others said: YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR.

3 out of 5 stars You get what you pay for   September 13, 2008

On the positive side, this system is pretty good for the price and it comes with a one-year warranty. The DVD unit is slow to respond to selections made with the remote and even pressing the DVD open/close button results in an extended wait. As far as sound, depending on the source, occasionally a ringing resonance is generated which can only be partially eliminated by reducing the volume. My unit quit working after less than 90-days of occasional use. It was replaced under warranty with a well-used, refurbished unit with lower quality speakers. Additionally, I lost the balance of the original one-year warranty as the refurbished unit came with only a 90-day warranty.

Everything is good with this one...except that the volume is shutting itself down slowly after 1 minute, does anyone know the reason...

1 out of 5 stars Didn't work out of the box   July 22, 2008

I can't tell you how good the sound or the video is, all I can say is that the dvd unit didn't even turn on out of the box, and there was nothing I could do, since I live in Venezuela the item arrived about 4 months after I ordered it so neither amazon or the courier made themselves responsibles for the unit, so for me the home theater is just another box in the trash can.

5 out of 5 stars Great System For the Price   June 12, 2008
Krez31 (Allentown, PA)
After much research I decided to go with this system mainly because I felt it had the most features for the smallest price. I've owned it for about a month now and I don't regret the purchase at all. As others have said, the only draw back to the system is the fact that the speaker wires are hard wired into the back of the speakers. But that didn't really present a problem for me because there was plenty of wire to accommodate my small living room. In short, if you are in the market for a simple, economic upgrade to your sound this is the product for you. You won't find a better deal with all the features of this product!
Pros:
-Price
-Features
Ipod dock (controllable with remote)
1000 watts of power (loud enough to annoy the neighbors)
Plenty of inputs and easy to connect
All-in-all works very well
Cons:
Speakers are hard wired
DVD Trey is a little flimsy
